How to Ollie

Definition: A skateboarding trick where the skateboarder pops the skateboard into the air. The effect is the skateboarder jumping with the skateboard stuck to his or her feet.

Basically, the trick involves snapping the tail of the skateboard down while sliding the front foot up along the skateboard and jumping. This trick takes a lot of practice to get the technique, but once learned it opens the door for the bulk of common skateboarding tricks

Vote for Freedom

If you want to make your own choices and pay less taxes, then you are just like our founding Fathers who came to this country. They came to be treated like individuals, not groups and they came to worship as they please. God gave them the ability to win the war against the huge organized British army. And we earned our individual God-given rights for life, freedom and the pursuit of happiness.

Each day, more of those rights are being taken from us. The government spends your money as they please on frivolous projects and they give your money away to people who choose not to work. They give your money away to illegal immigrants when they go to hospitals for healthcare. They give themselves $40,000 health insurance and huge paychecks.

If you want your rights back, then you need to vote for anybody who stands for LESS government, LESS spending, and LESS interference in your life. You need to vote for someone who is willing to protect our country and it's borders. There are so many who want to take everything away from Americans - they sneak in when we are not paying attention.

Pay Attention! If you are 18, you need to vote. If you are not 18 yet, you can spread the word and ask voters to protect your rights and vote for 'Freedom.' We are Americans. We are Special. Don't let anyone take away your freedom and give it away.

This November, get out and Vote and fight for your Freedom!

JV SKATE SHOP

                               Beginner Skateboard Gear

So you've bought or borrowed your first skateboard, and you are wondering what to do with it. You've seen skaters at the park or on TV, and you know what skating's supposed to look like, but how do you get started? What sort of beginner skateboard gear do you need?

Well, the first thing you should do is get a pair of skate shoes (check out the JV Skate Shop). You can skate in regular shoes, but it will be a lot harder and even sometimes dangerous. Skate shoes are built with a large flat bottom, to better grip the board, and often with other features like reinforcement in areas where you'll likely wear the shoe down.

You should also get a helmet (see our Product Gallery accessories). You might see skaters not wearing helmets, and worry that wearing one will make you look weak or stupid, but don't worry about it. It's common now for skateparks to require helmets, and it's just plain smart, especially when you first start out. Protect your head!

Wearing other protective pads can be good too, but what you need totally depends on what you are doing (we have all kinds). If you are trying to do tricks in your driveway, elbow pads might be a good idea, but you really only need knee pads if you are skating on a ramp, or trying some pretty crazy tricks. Wrist braces can be nice, but be careful not to get too used to using your hands to catch yourself when you fall. Pads can make the difference between a bruise and a break.
